Evangelicals and Mormons the Same?
I’m not here to defend the Mormons. As a Christian, I have issues with much of their doctrine. But, I feel it is a bit hypocritical for evangelical Christians to criticize them. Why? Because like the Mormons, Evangelical Christians are a relatively new sect with some odd and unorthodox doctrine. Both denominations were established in the early 19th century. The evangelical movement began with the concept of dispensationalism via John Nelson Darby, but it wasn’t until the early 20th century before the movement even had it’s own version of the Bible (the Scofield Bible). It’s real power didn’t come about until about 35 years ago. So, one could argue that the evangelical movement is a much newer concept than Mormonism.
