My canary has been molting for a long time!?

Birds can molt twice a year..spring and fall...also they often have what are called "mini-molts" which means that they only partially molt and don't loose all their feather, just the ones that need to be renewed. My parakeet has had pin feathers on his head for a few months but has yet to go into full molt....also they do not always molt at exactly the same times each year. It sounds like you are taking wonderful care of him. I am sure he will be ok!
